Marking the Date
My friend, Lee, died two years ago today. I know some of you are marking the date with me today. All day long, I've been thinking about the ways he made me laugh--something he did regularly, even when he was sick. He cracked me up frequently when we traveled together for study abroad purposes in 2006 and 2007. I have this mental image of Lee sitting in a wingback chair in England, wearing my rhinestone accented reading glasses, or squeezed into my girly rain jacket, waiting for a bus (outside Auschwitz, of all places) and I bust out laughing. Sometimes he'd say something so unexpected I'd just lose it. Or he'd tell some story from his childhood--some crazy thing he did with his brothers: maybe it involved fire or fast cars--and it would just leave me crying with laughter. We miss him, those of us who had the pleasure of his friendship. Just for laughs, here's a silly 2007 shot of Lee.
