Fat and Happy

I'm down and out with a torn lateral meniscus and a chronic back problem this year, so that means I can't walk the annual Turkey Trot in my hometown. Today would have been my fifth Trot, but instead of being out on Presque Isle with all those turkey hat-wearing Erieites, I'm sipping coffee in front of the TV at my sister's house. I guess I shouldn't complain. It's 25 degrees here and another band of lake effect snow is rolling in, adding to the seven inches of snow already on the ground. Hot coffee and a cushy chair feel pretty good right now.

The family arrives later. We'll have seventeen people at the Thanksgiving table this year and more food than any of us can possibly eat. In preparation for the food fest, I'm going to strap on my knee brace and hit the exercise bike in the basement. It's no Turkey Trot, but the ride will make me feel a teeny bit less guilty about that second slab of pie I'm likely to have later. And it wouldn't be a Sipple holiday without this little lady--my 1960s Chatty Cathy that my sister (inexplicably) decorates for every single holiday. On this creepy note, I wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving!

Starting Over

I've been a bad blogger lately, but yesterday was my 55th birthday, and today is my 20th divorceiversary, so it's as good a time as any to start again. To close the door on a not-so-new thing, my kitchen remodeling is finally finished. It was a long and sometimes painful process, but I really like the finished kitchen. It's a nice combination of the old and the new, and it really suits me.

Granite!

I still need to put some things on the walls...

My house is slowly coming back into order now, and that makes everything in my life feel better. It turns out that while I like my new things, I like routine, too. There's nothing quite like a home renovation to turn your world upside down in the most uncomfortable ways. Now that it's over, I'm looking forward many years of happy homemaking in my new kitchen.
