My Next Continent

I'm Amsterdam-bound! Andy, Maria, and I flew from Buffalo to Detroit, and we just took off on the international leg of our trip. We'll catch a flight to Edinburgh out of Amsterdam. Right now, we're hungry, just waiting for dinner to be served. I have to say that all of the pre-planning that Eric and I did made me feel so much better about the trip. Not that I was feeling bad about it: I wasn't. But there is a great deal of comfort in knowing that I don't have to figure out what we're doing every single day. Most of that is decided. Frankly, I need to remind myself of that before every big trip. I hate planning, but it appears that I like having planned.

I just asked Maria what she's most looking forward on the trip, and she responded, "to see the cool castles and to get some of that gelato stuff.". I'd mentioned that I'd heard that there was a wonderful gelato place somewhere behind Notre Dame in Paris, and I guess that caught her attention. I asked Andy the same question, and he said, "golfing! I'm looking forward to golfing at its birthplace and at its roots.". He says that a visit to St. Andrew's, Scotland is on his bucket list. Did I do anything on my life list when I was 18? I'm not sure. As for me, I'm looking forward to Scotland. I've never been there, and I do love a new thing. Now that I think of it, a solo trip anywhere with Andy and Maria is a new thing. And a really wonderful one at that.
