Morris Dancers

This weekend in Abingdon-on-Thames, I saw something I'd never seen before: Morris Dancing. This traditional English folk dance originated in small villages around Oxford, England and is performed mostly in the spring. That is all I know about it, except for what I saw with my own eyes. The dancers--all men in the group I saw--wore hats ringed with flowers, rows of bells on their pant legs, and green suspenders. The dancing reminded me of some cross between clogging and square dancing, and they waved white handkerchiefs while they danced.

There were some odd characters there, too. I don't have any idea what these guys have to do with the dancing.

And finally, for your viewing pleasure, here's my amateur video of Morris Dancing! Enjoy!
